What's a resistor?A resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit. Resistors can also be used to provide a specific voltage for an active device such as a transistor. Resistors determine the flow of current in an electrical circuit. Where there is high resistance then the flow of current is small, where the resistance is low the flow of current is large. Resistance, voltage and current are connected in an electrical circuit by Ohm’s Law. A resistor is anything that electricity can not travel through easily. When electricity is forced through a resistor, often the energy in the electricity is changed into another form of energy, such as light or heat. The reason a light bulb glows is that electricity is forced through tungsten, which is a resistor. The energy is released as light and heat. A resistor is a component of an electrical circuit that resists the flow of electrical current. A resistor has two terminals across which electricity must pass, and is designed to drop the voltage of the current as it flows from one terminal to the next.
